BREAKING NEWS: Bielsa resigns as Marseille boss
The Argentine coach has called time on his stay at the Stade Velodrome, revealing that he had made the decision before Saturday's defeat to Caen
Marcelo Bielsa has resigned as head coach as Marseille in the aftermath of the French side's 1-0 defeat to Caen in Saturday's season opener.
The Argentine had been linked with an exit from the club for months after a tumultuous first season in charge of Marseille.
After remaining in the title race for most of the season, Bielsa guided Marseille to a fourth-placed finish last term.
However, the coach announced that he had resigned to the press after the game, but revealed that he had made the decision days prior.
"I thank the fans who have always been behind me during games and every day," he said.
"I have finished my work here, I will return to my country. I put everything I have into this team."
