Security sources in Chad state that two suicide bombers detonated their devices while trying to get into the military base having been resisted by officers on guard duty.

“The two kamikazes tried to get into the camp but were pushed back by the guard so they detonated themselves at the entrance,” said an officer at the Kaiga Ngouboua base in the Lake Chad region, adding that a suspected accomplice had been arrested.

Security sources added that nobody except the bombers was killed.

Chad’s capital N’Djamena will host the command centre of a 8,700-strong multinational force to fight Boko Haram, military chiefs from Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin agreed on Saturday.

The multinational joint task force has a mandate of dealing effectively with Boko Haram before the year ends.
