Beijing 2015: Osasuwa fails to shine in heptathlon
Team Nigeria’s representative in the heptathlon event, Uhunoma Osazuwa, on Sunday failed to shine after finishing her event in a disappointing 18th place.
She had earlier qualified for the World Championships with her personal and season best during the National Trials in Warri, where she finished with 6106 points, but failed to near her best in Beijing.
She finished with 5951 points in an event won by Great Britain’s Jessica Ennis-Hill, who finished with 6669 points, her season’s best, ahead of Canadian Brianne Eaton, who finished with 6554 points. Laura Ikauniece-Admidina from Latvia finished in third position after amassing 6516 points.
In another event on Sunday, Amaka Ogoegbunam, failed to progress to the semifinals of the women’s 400m hurdles after finishing last in her heat in a disappointing 58.16secs.
Nigeria will continue its quest for a medal Monday with Okagbare leading the pack in the women’s 100m semifinals.
Tosin Adeloye, Regina George and Patience Okon George will be competing in the women’s 400m heat for a place in Tuesday’s semifinals.
