Beijing 2015: Gatlin impresses as Bolt struggles in semis
Usain Bolt struggled to win his 100m semi-final at the World Championships as Justin Gatlin clocked an imperious 9.77 seconds to reach the final.
Bolt stumbled out of the blocks and was seventh after 40m, but powered through to win the first semi in 9.96secs, reports the BBC.
Gatlin – favourite after a string of quick times this year – looked serene to win in just three hundredths of a second outside his personal best.
Another American Tyson Gay also won his race, ahead of former champion, Asafa Powell.
The final takes place at 14:15 BST (which is the same time in Nigeria).
