Suraj: Government should change security tactics

Suraj: Government should change security tactics
There are two different angles to the renewed onslaught by the sect. It is not impossible that the Federal Government’s effort at cleaning out the insurgents is getting to them seriously. And also at the last effort, they want to inflict as much injuries within their powers on the people. Also, there are still a handful of sabotages and some persons outside the Boko Haram taking advantage of the situation.
If you look at what happened in Jos and Kaduna, you will be tempted to believe that the mode of the operation was outside the system of the Boko Haram. Whatever it is, you can see that there are some deserters that are also deported from the camp of the Boko Haram who were shot by the sects.
It means some of them are getting better informed or the heat is getting to them as they suspect that they might get at them very soon, so the best thing they want to do is to get out of the Boko Haram bondage.
The government needs to change its tactics because fear has heightened in the system. The government needs to move away from the usual assurances of we are going to fish out the perpetrators; they must provide information that can assist the people in understanding their involvements and the activities of government in stamping out the insurgents.
It will not be good if Nigerians are left to be making conjectures on their own over what is happening. There is no doubting the fact that one month is not sufficient for any government, not even the American government can stamp out this level of insurgency in one year, not talk of a government that has just been there for one and a half month.
We need to understand how they are addressing the issue and they must update the people on the need to be security conscious. I think those who are already assessing this new government with the last administration are not being fair and uncharitable. How can anyone compare a six weeks government with a six years government?
In any case, if anything had changed, it was the political structure not the security structure. The same service chiefs who worked with the past government are still there now, the new government inherited them. It is still the same set of people until they are changed. It will be too hasty of a conclusion if anyone tries to assess this administration under six weeks.
