Sallah: IGP orders tight security around worship centres, other places
As part of measures to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration nationwide, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, has directed Commissioners of Police (CPs) in charge of state commands, to strengthen security during the period.
Arase urged the CPs to pay particular attention to worship centres, critical infrastructure as well as other vulnerable places.
The statement conveying the IGP’s directive, which was signed Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, a Commissioner of Police, reads: “In a bid to ensure hitch-free Sallah celebrations, the IGP has mandated Command Commissioners of Police nationwide on improved and water-tight security during and after Sallah celebrations. Special attention shall be paid to all places of worships, critical public places and other vulnerable points prone to criminal attack.
“The Police High Command is hopeful that the operational strategies adopted by the Force and renewed collaboration with the public will yield positive results.
“The IGP, while felicitating with Muslim faithful as they round off the Ramadan Fast, enjoins them and other citizens to maintain utmost vigilance and courageously continue to support the police and provide useful information towards preventing and unearthing crimes and their perpetrators.”
