Babangida, Abubakar and Sanusi were said to have in separate messages called on Nigerians to support the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, especially in the fight against insurgency.
Speaking at the Eid prayer ground at Bypass, Minna, Babangida said: “I call on all Nigerians to rally round and support the government in whatever effort it is making towards fighting the insurgency. And also, with this effort, the economy will be buoyant. We must all pray and support this government to move this country forward.”
On his part, Abubakar said: “We pray for Nigeria, for Eid el-Fitri. May the peace and blessing of Almighty Allah be with us. We must all come together, be vigilant so that we can maintain the existing peace.” Similarly, Sanusi while addressing the residents of Kano at the Kano Central Mosque, called on Nigerians to support the efforts of President Buhari at fighting insurgency to sustain peace in the country.
“These religious, ethnic and cultural differences among others should further unite and not divide Nigerians,” he said. Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson enjoined Moslem faithful to continue to live in peace with the adherents of other religions, noting that all religions are one and important, as his administration will continue to give equal recognition to all of them. He said: “All religious leaders and followers should always preach peace, unity and good neighbourliness.
The Bayelsa message of peace, which you have exemplified should be imbibed by all Nigerians.” On his part, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, said he would never renege on its pledge to ensure comfortable living for whoever sets his feet on the territory of the state, saying the current challenge was temporary.
The governor made the assurance at Osogbo praying ground where he worshipped, said: “It is the promise of Allah to His creatures that no matter the magnitude of hardship that comes their way, He (Allah) will unfailingly end it with comfort. After hardship comes ease.
After problem, solution. So, no matter how hard a situation may appear, they will surely come succour from God.” Aregbesola’s counterpart in Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, also said political stability was needed to guarantee the nation’s economic development.
He prayed for wisdom in tackling the nation’s challenges and urged Muslims to continually pray for the peace and stability of the nation. The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul- Ganiy Abubakari, said: “I have observed that it is only during Ramadan that Islamic programmes are sponsored on the media.
I am appealing to well-to-do Muslims to reverse the trend and sponsor such programmes all year round,” he said. Equally, the Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Mustapha, enjoined the people of the state to maintain the respect and unity they have for each other which transcended many decades.
