National security: Defence Intelligence to support police


* As Police/UK-based office synergies
The Defence Intelligence has pledged to support the Nigeria Police in the area of intelligence gathering, in a bid to enhance national security.
A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, a Commissioner of Police, said the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshall Monday Riku Morgan, made the pledge when he paid a courtesy call on. the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase.
“The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshall Monday Riku Morgan…while paying courtesy visit to IGP in his office at Force Headquarters Abuja, promised to support Nigeria Police through an improved capacity building on intelligence gathering for Police officers with a view to enhancing National Security. He also expressed satisfaction in the leadership and management team of the Nigeria Police,” the statement reads in part.
The statement quoted the IGP as requesting that junior police officers be given the same opportunity .
The Force Headquarters, in another statement, noted that: “In a bid to re-tool the Nigeria Police Security architecture…Arase…has entered into a robust fusion with Association of Criminal Records Office, based in the United Kingdom (UK).”
It added that: “When fully operational, this synergy will among other things: review Nigeria Police Criminal Justice System, Develop Criminal Records Register, provide the Police with electronic criminal records gadgets, and modernise police information technology needs.”
