N1m up for grabs at GOtv Boxing Night

The best overall boxer at the upcoming GOtv Boxing Night will go home with an incredible one million naira, organisers of the event have stated.
The GOtv Boxing Night, the third in the series since its inception back in November 2014, comes up on Sunday, July 26 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos. And the overall best boxer will be decided on the night by a team of judges and journalists.
It will be the first time the best overall boxer will be heading home with anything other than the event’s customised silver trophy, which has now been renamed the Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy, in memory of the departed wife of GOtv boss, Adewunmi Ogunsanya. And according to the Managing Director of Flykite Productions and promoter of the GOtv Boxing Night, Jenkins Alumona, who spoke at a press conference on Tuesday, the monetary incentive was made possible by Ogunsanya, who is a keen lover of boxing.
Alumona also assured all present that the prize money would be reviewed upwards in subsequent editions of the GOtv Boxing Night.
Six bouts will take place on July 29 with the main event being the 12 rounds national light middleweight title bout between Sule ‘Tyson’ Olagbade and Abolaji ‘Afonja Warrior’ Rasheed. Rasheed was adjudged the overall best boxer at last November’s maiden edition.
Other bouts scheduled for the night include the eight rounds light welterweight challenge contest between Kazeem Ariyo and Olaide Fijabi. Lightweight national champion, Nurudeen ‘Prince’ Fatai will also take on Chibuzor ‘T Boy’ Obi, while interim national middleweight champion, Sunday Ajuwa will square up against former Commonwealth Games and All-Africa Games campaigner Femi Ajayi in a cruiserweight clash.
