Kogi Guber: PDP may begin sale of nomination forms this week

Kogi Guber: PDP may begin sale of nomination forms this week
‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may begin the sale of nomination forms for Kogi State governorship election this week.
According to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the people of the state will go to the polls to elect their next governor on November 25 this year.
Last week, the party conducted ward primaries for nomination of delegates to the local government representatives for the nomination of the party’s flag bearers.
‎Though PDP is in control of Kogi State, it is facing a serious challenge from the All Progressives Congress (APC) which won all the National Assembly seats in the last general elections.
PDP was, however, to redeem its image during the state Assembly poll, securing the majority in the House.
‎Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada is seeking a re-election. His ambition is facing a lot of challenges by some party members who feel that he may not enjoy the support of electorate in the state going by his performance as governor in the last four years.
PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has promised level playing field for all aspirants to the party’s sole ticket in the gubernatorial election.
By this statement, PDP has jettisoned the policy of given automatic ticket for its returning governors.
To underscore the seriousness of fielding a popular candidate in the election, the ward delegate congress was supervised by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh.
In the past, the party usually appoint a non-NWC‎ to chair such congress.
A source at the PDP National Secretary in Abuja disclosed that ‎the party does not want to leave anything to chance given the fact that it has already lost many states to APC.
“PDP presently is in control of 13 states. So if it loses Kogi the number will come down to 12. That is why it is doing everything possible to ensure that whoever will be given the ticket will enjoy the support of the people of the state. We don’t want to lose Kogi State,” the source added.
INEC has fixed between August 25 and September 15 for the conduct of primaries for political parties wishing to field candidate for the ‎governorship election.
