The club CEO says he was prepared for the reaction from the club's fans when the midfielder was absent from the club's unveiling of their new kit
Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admits he was not surprised to hear the club's fans jeer the transfer of Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United.
The CEO announced that the midfielder was set to join Old Trafford club, meaning he was absent from the club's unveiling of their new kit for the coming season as it was modelled by their star players in a packed Allianz Arena.
The Bayern fans did not take the news well and voiced their anger as the new strips were unveiled on Saturday.
"I don't know if they were booing Bayern Munich or just the transfer itself," the 59-year-old admitted to Bild.
"But I expected this reaction, and was prepared for it. You have to explain something like this sensibly.
"An explanation was owed of the fans, and I think we did a good job, if you saw the reaction of the supporters afterwards."
The former Germany international stressed that it was the midfielder's choice to leave the club.
"We had a very serious and detailed discussion with Schweinsteiger and we have complied with his request."
