Cathy Freeman reunited with Olympic bodysuit… 15 years later
It was missing for more than 14 years and questions remain unanswered, but on Friday Australian sporting great Cathy Freeman was reunited with the bodysuit she wore during the Sydney Olympics opening ceremony.
The one-piece went missing after Freeman, who won 400m gold at the 2000 Games, left it in the Stadium Australia dressing room after lighting the cauldron.
But in December last year the suit was anonymously mailed to the National Sports Museum at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Staff have verified its authenticity and it is the suit that Freeman, 42, wore on that memorable night on Friday, 15 September, reports the BBC.
The former athlete tweeted her delight on Friday: “Finally been reunited with my authenticated Sydney 2000 opening ceremony suit! Thanks to all involved in returning it!”
