Banking sector records highest number of customer complaints – CPC

Banking sector records highest number of customer complaints – CPC
Statistics from the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has revealed that the highest record of customer complaints is in the financial sector.
Disclosing this Wednesday in Abuja during the 2015 Consumer Summit, with the theme: ‘Consumer Rights and Protection in the emerging Digital Economy,’ the Director General of CPC Mrs. Dupe Atoki said the Council is inundated daily with series of consumer complaints about the financial sector of the nation’s economy.
In her words: “In our database for 2015, we have the financial sector as the area we receive the highest record of complaints almost every day.”
Atoki further added that although the complaints are enormous, the Council has recorded some number of resolved cases in the interest of the bank customers.
She reiterated that the CPC is empowered among others to provide redress to consumers’ complaints; ensure product safety and quality standards as well as promote consumer education and advocacy campaigns.
Meanwhile, in his paper presentation titled: ‘Passengers Rights in Online Booking’, the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Muhtar Usman, while highlighting the merits of online booking, stated that: “It is convenient for passengers to find, book and pay for flights ticket on the internet. It gives room for quick and easy ways to comparing prices on several airlines before making a choice.
“However, Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations Part 19.15.1 prohibits any airline, its agent or a tour operator from publishing misleading advertising that does not disclose the full fare to be paid by passengers, especially through the internet. Passenger’s rights in online booking and ticketing are the same with other known booking and ticketing systems.”
