10,000 security men to patrol Kwara for Sallah
Security agencies in Kwara State have put out a combined team of men and officers totalling about 10,000 to maintain peace and security during the Eid-El celebration in the state. The move according to the spokesman of Kwara State Police Command, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, was part of efforts at beefing up in Ilorin metropolis as well as the Eidi praying ground ,Ilorin. It also includes counter terrorism measures.
He said yesterday: “The command has sent out what we call an operational order that will cover the period of the Sallah celebration. We, the police are fully ready to prevent sabotage by any militant which of course we don’t have in Kwara and also to protect Kwarans.
“We are going to make use of all we have in our arsenal, all departments in the command will be working, from information department to antirobbery and bomb squad.
In short, all hand will be on deck. “I am using this medium to tell the people of Kwara to be law abiding; vehicle drivers should avoid driving recklessly and everybody should continue with their daily activities normally as we are here to ensure security.
On his part, Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) in the state , Joshua Adekanye, said the agency has deployed 5,000 officers to ensure accident- free Sallah celebration.
He said, “I want to tell you that we are fully prepared and we have started our special operations since Tuesday and it will end next Tuesday.
We have equally deployed our Mobile Courts for the traffic offenders and we have commenced our enlightenment at Churches, Mosques and parks as well. We have increased our patrol vehicles.”
Also Spokesperson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),Oluyemi Andrew, said “about 2, 000 men have been deployed to maintain peace, security and order in the state. People should not take laws into their hands. We also we encourage the public to be law abiding citizens.”
