Kalu congratulates Adesina on AfDB presidency

Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (MON) has congratulated the immediate past Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, on his election as the new president of African Development Bank (AfDB) Adesina emerged winner among the eight contenders for the position in the election that was held last Thursday in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

“I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your emergence as the president of the African development Bank of Nigeria (AFDB) “Over the years, you had distinguished yourself in different positions and capacities in private and public sectors .with your background and experience in agriculture development. I am optimistic that you will adopt and implement policies and strategies that will take Africa to the next level.

I wish you continued success in this new role,” Kalu said. In a related development, Adesina has praised the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, for her supportive roles before and during the election into the office of the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB). Adesina said that although other prominent Nigerians played significant roles in drumming up support for his candidacy, Dr. Okonjo- Iweala, particularly stood by him in unprecedented ways that led to his electoral victory.

Adesina said: “Dr. Okonjo-Iweala took me to different parts of the world to meet Finance Ministers. She introduced me to the finance ministers at the World Bank meeting. She was basically the team captain of the campaign.”
