Defending champion Maria Sharapova is out of the French Open after losing in the fourth round against 13th seed Lucie Safarova.
The Czech 28-year-old won 7-6 6-4 to progress to the quarter-finals for the first time in her career.
Russia’s Sharapova has reached the final of the competition at Roland Garros in the previous three years.
Safarova will now face Garbine Muguruza in the last eight, after the Spaniard beat Italy’s Flavia Pennetta 6-3 6-4, reports the BBC.
