Quadri drops in ITTF ranking

International Table Tennis Federation Star Player of the Year 2014, Aruna Quadri, dropped seven spots from 38 to 44 in the current rankings released by the federation.

The drop is attributed to the 29th seed’s first round ouster at the just-concluded ITTF World Championships in Suzhou, China.

Quadri lost to India’s Soumyajit Ghosh, who rose to 95th from his previous 104th position, in a match that he had been touted to win.

He had 2231 points to become the second best player on the continent behind Omar Assar, who gathered 2278 points to rise from his previous 41st position to 36th in the world.

However, Nigerian veteran, Segun Toriola, who was absent from the rankings in April, with his 1880 points was ranked 153rd.

He played in the first round of the main draw of the competition, where he lost out to Chinese Sheng-Sheng Huang.
