I won’t dictate to Ikpeazu, Orji pledges

Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has pledged he will not dictate to his successor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, after he vacates the Government House in Umuahia as the state governor on May 29.

Orji says he will encourage Ikpeazu to use his discretion to run the affairs of the state.

The Governor, who stated this at the Government House, Umuahia, when he received in audience, the Ukwa Peoples Assembly on Friday, said he would prove wrong his critics, who had insinuated that he would continue to meddle in the affairs of the state, after handing over power.

The governor said, “Once my tenure ends on the May 29, I will be off from the state except on invitations, and I won’t be tele-guiding anybody.”

Orji declared that a Governor, as the Chief Executive of the state, should be allowed a freed hand without unnecessary interference.

The outgoing governor expressed faith that Ikpeazu would not betray the confidence reposed in him.

“As the first Ukwa Ngwa Governor, he knows the enormous expectation of the people about him,” Orji said.

He urged the people to rally round the governor-elect as their kinsman and give him the needed support to succeed.

Orji used the forum to ask for forgiveness from those who felt offended by any of the policies and programmes of his administration.

The leader of the delegation and former Senate President, Senator Adolf Wabara, said their visit was to thank the governor for his support for the Ukwa Ngwa cause.

“Without T. A. Orji, the governor of Ukwa Ngwa extraction would have been a mirage”, Wabara said.

Wabara also predicted rapid economic transformation of the state under Ikpeazu.
