FINDING BOKO HARAM LEADER, SHEKAU, NO LONGER OUR PRIORITY — MILITARY
The Nigerian Army, through its Director of Defense information,Chris Olukolade has said that finding Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is not its current priority.
He stated, during an interview, that Shekau was not the main reason for the creation of the multinational task force formed to combat the sect.
“The sensational idea of looking out for one individual should not distract us or hold us down,” Olukolade told Reuters.
Olukolade also spoke on the dangers posed by landmines in the recent military operation against Boko Haram in its notorious stronghold, Sambisa Forest.
“Everywhere they have their havens, they have mined it all around. The Sambisa forest is another place that is seriously mined … A major obstacle to the move,”Olukolade said.
“By intelligence reports, we have many more (militant camps) and they must be destroyed,” he added.
The military spokesperson also spoke on the recent rescue of hundreds of women and children from the forest.
“We are screening them to make sure they are not combatants, to extract intelligence,”Olukolade said
The Nigerian Army successfully rescued 293 women and children from the sect on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, another 160 on Wednesday and 234 more on Friday, May 1.
