Wole Soyinka Slams Rivers State Election

Speaking to Channels on Sunday afternoon the Nobel laureate was questioned on his thoughts about the elections in Rivers state, he said“If you talk about democracy, I am afraid, we are still below 40 per cent.

There is no question in my mind that what happened in Rivers State during the presidential and assembly elections are, well, complete atrocious and the finger points definitely at the kind of middle character that I am talking about.”

“Elections are supposed to enable us to avoid response in violence to mis-governance; you know, you wait when you are dissatisfied or your rights have been abused; citizens wait for that moment when they can exercise their voice and then some bunch of criminals calling themselves governors, calling themselves generals, calling themselves ministers, conspire to thwart the will of the people,”
