COD United Ladies coach, Anne Chiejine, says her side are focused on winning the Federation Cup after defeating FC Robo 3-1 in the Lagos State FA Cup final.
Chiejine, whose team also finished tops in the women’s National League, said her players were in the right frame of mind to win the Federation Cup after conquering Lagos.
“FC Robo have always been our big rivals; they defeated us last year in the final and to defeat them comprehensively in a final the way we did gives me a lot of confidence that my team will make a very big impact on the Federations Cup,” the former Super Falcons goalkeeper said.
“My girls are showing maturity and winning the state FA Cup has confirmed that. Once a team matures in football, the chances of winning big games are higher because you need a mature temperament to navigate games like that.
“Our target is to win and that is what we will focus on. We know we will be facing more experienced teams but rather than be afraid, my girls are excited.”
In addition to winning the Lagos FA Cup, C.O.D. Ladies also carted away all the major awards in the competition. Chiejine was named best coach while Yetunde Adesina was selected best goalkeeper. The talented Monday Gift emerged the Most Valuable Player of the competition.
The victory also affirms C.O.D.’s dominance of football in Lagos as its teams (men and women) have played in the Lagos F.A Cup final in four of the last five editions, winning twice. They are the first club to win both the male and female categories of the Lagos FA Cup.
