Borno, Rivers, Adamawa, Yobe election tribunals sit in Abuja

The governorship and legislative election petitions tribunals for four states are to hold in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The states are Rivers, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

Only the Borno election tribunal had yet to get a courtroom for its sittings. Others have been allocated space to conduct their proceedings.
Rivers tribunal will sit at the FCT High Court in Apo; Adamawa tribunal is to sit at FCT High Court in Jabi; that of Yobi will sit in Nyanya.

The tribunal for FCT legislative election is expected to sit in Zuba division of the Abuja High Court.

It was learnt that the tribunals for the affected states would hold in Abuja owing to security situations in the states.
But a senior official of the Court of Appeal’s Election Petitions Unit, who sought not to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the issue, said efforts were  on to get a sitting space for the Borno tribunal.

The source added that time was of essence as the tribunal needed to start sitting as required under the Electoral Act.
The Borno tribunal could not sit on Monday because of lack of space.

Already, Alhaji Zarma Mustapha of the Peoples Democratic Party has filed a petition against Kadiri Rahis of the All Progressives Congress before the Borno State legislative election petitions tribunal.
In his petition challenging Rahis’ election, Mustapha joined the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission as defendants.
