Ebonyi Workers Declare Seven-Day Warning Strike, Reject Egwu’s Salary C’tte Report

Organised labour in Ebonyi State on Friday commenced a seven-day warning strike in protest of old salary structure recommended by a committee set up by Governor Dave Umahi headed by a former governor of the state and member representing Ebonyi North in the senate, Dr. Sam Egwu to resolve the lingering crisis between the government and the workers over salary structure.

In bulletin No. 12 made available to newsmen, the organised labour recalled that it had suspended industrial action on July 15 this year to protest plans by the government to cut down salaries of workers and was pushed to declare the present warning strike as a result of the Egwu’s special salary committee which recommended payment based on the old salary chart to workers which it said was unacceptable.

According to the two page bulletin, the committee submitted its report on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 without recourse to the organised labour submissions based on economic reality of the state.
‘’The Dr. Sam Egwu committee, which hitherto professed to be neutral in the mediation process surprisingly submitted its report to the government which warranted the Head of Service to issue circular HOS/EPM/0074/141, which the labour side is unaware of the same information.”
