Chelsea have agreed a £4m deal for Reading defender Michael Hector, Goal understands.
Hector’s representatives are currently discussing personal terms in west London ahead of a shock deadline day move to the Premier League champions.
The centre-back, 23, is set to join on the same day that the Blues completed a £2.7m deal for Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji.
It brings in to question Chelsea’s transfer strategy this summer after their failed attempts to sign top target John Stones from Everton despite being prepared to bid £40m for the England international.
Hector, 23, had previously been attracting interest from Crystal Palace after signing a new three-year contract with Reading in June.
The Jamaica international, who is represented by his father and uncle, has had 11 loan spells already during his career.
