The latest addition to the coaching team of the ongoing Akwa Ibom State/NNPC/MPN Schools Athletics Holiday and training programme is Coach Daniel Etsebiminor, the Delta State-born coach who helped Blessing Okagbare get to limelight. Known as the grass roots coach of Blessing, Coach Etsebiminor, also the Divine Oduduru in his long list of athletes he has nurtured to stardom.
He will be in charge of the sprints event in Uyo. One of Nigeria’s coaches to the Delhi India 2010 Commonwealth Games, he was also in the country’s delegation when it participated in the African Senior Championships in Nairobi, the All Africa Games in Maputo, the IAAF World Junior Championship in Barcelona in 2012 and the IAAF World Relays in Bahamas in 2015. “I cherish this opportunity to work with the future of track and field in this country and I must commend the organisers for such a worthy initiative.
To bring 200 athletes together under one roof and work with them for two weeks is an ideal setting that should be encouraged. “Just like it happened in 2013, I can see an explosion of potential stars by the time we finish. All the state has to do is to follow up on our programmes and monitor the students after this,” he said.
