Domestic servant docked for allegedly stealing Chinese national’s N1.3m cash, property
A cook, Kufure Effiong, who allegedly stole his employer’s cash and property worth N1.3 million, was on Monday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Effiong, 25, who resides at No. 9, Kwara St., Osborne Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Igonbo Emby told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the offences on August 7 at 8. 30 p.m. at Plot 20, Osborne Estate, Ikoyi.
He said the accused stole a laptop, two phones, $200 and N450, 000, property of a Chinese, Mr Wu Yisan.
“ The total value of all the items stolen is N1.3 million.’’
Emby noted that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 285 provides three years imprisonment, while Section 409 prescribes two-year jail term.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Emmanuel Banney, urged the court to admit him to a bail on liberal terms.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr P. A. Adekumanya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case to September 15 for mention.
