Mimiko hails residents on Residency Card, salutes Muslims
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has lauded the people of the state for their warm embrace of the government’s Residency Card initiative, just as he admonished Muslims in the country not to return to bad habits they dropped before the Rammadan.
In his Eid-el-Fitr message issued by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade in Akure Sunday, Mimiko called on Muslims in the nation to sustain the lessons of Rammadan by allowing the God-like characters they lived all through the period of the Ramamdan to become a way of life for them.
According to him, love, tolerance and peace are Islamic virtues that true muslims should not compromise, positing that making these permanent habits will go a long way in making the country a better one for all to co-habit.
The governor wished muslims all over a hitch free celebration as they mark the end of the Ramaddan fast.
Mimiko expressed his delight at the peoples’ reaction towards the utilisation of the government Residency Card, otherwise known as ‘Kaadi Igbeayo’.
The governor said their support for government over the scheme has demonstrated that people would naturally support a sincere policy of government.
Governor Mimiko said the advantage of the smart card to the overall interest of the state can not be over emphasised adding that the card will naturally become a barrier for cheats in the system who have been operating unhindered.
Enumerating some of the gains of the card, the governor said by collating residents data, it will be easier for government to know the number of people its responsible to cater for , adding that with the accurate figure of residents in the state on hand, government will be able to plan and ensure that no one is left out of the dividends of democracy distribution in the state.
According to him, his government has enjoyed the support of the people since coming to power.
He said it is the same support which they have extended to the ‘Kaadi Igbeayo’ project that has encouraged government to be more determined in the resolve to ensure that residents in the state continue to enjoy services of government at no cost once they are able to present their smart card at the point of service to convince government agents that they are bonafide residents of the state.
