In its determination to find a lasting solution to the perennial problem of potable water supply in the riverine area of the state, the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko will on Tuesday flag-off the first phase of a N4.1billion water project in Aboto area of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The water project involves the construction of two million gallons per day raw water intake and treatment facilities.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade in a statement issued in Akure Sunday said there have been water projects initiatives to solve the potable water problem of the area by previous governments, adding, however, that the projects never saw the light of day or stand the test of time.
He said the water project is important to the people of Ilaje as they travel long distances to get water to drink, submitting that, with the new project done, the trend would be a thing of the past.
Giving details of the project, Akinmade said its contract awarded few months ago is in two parts which include the pipe laying and water main section located at Aboto. The pipe laying he also said, will cover 45.5kilometres.
Declaring that the water project will take a new dimension, the statement further hinted that 10kilometres of the pipe laying has been completed by the contractors.
“The water project will take a new dimension. It involves the construction of 2million gallons per day raw water intake and treatment facilities and laying of 45.6kilometres water rising main along Igbokoda Ugbonla road,” the statement said.
Apart from the water project flag-off, Governor Mimiko is expected to inspect the rehabilitation and overlay work going on, on the 33.48-kilometre Igbokoda-Ubgonla Road, even as he is also billed to commission a N 1.97million 1.7kilometres concrete walk way bridge in Bolowo and its environs.
According to the statement, the development is in line with Governor Mimiko’s vow to work for the people of the state and ensure that they feel and reap the dividend of democracy in the best way possible.
