Bayelsa guber: Jonathan not a threat- Sen. Brambaifa

Bayelsa guber: Jonathan not a threat- Sen. Brambaifa
Ahead of the Bayelsa State governorship election slated for December a former senator and a new member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator John Kojo Brambaifa has dismissed the influence of the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan in the election.
Brambaifa, who spoke to APC reporters at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja alleged that Jonathan was not popular as President, therefore cannot be said to have influence outside office.
The Senator, who represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District alluded to the statement attributed to the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo that Jonathan Presidency would hunt the South South for long time.
Speaking on the former President person and his administration, Brambaifa said, “The former president is not the president. He is a former president and from my assessment he is not popular now and he was not that popular when he was even the president.
“He was not popular because he was imposed on us. If it were the people of Bayelsa or the people of the South South to pick a vice president as at that time he became a vice president, l don’t think that people would have picked Goodluck Jonathan. He didn’t have the capacity to be vice president as at that time. He was imposed and if he was not popular at that time and he had shown that by losing the election woefully, then that unpopularity that people are saying is an extension of what had been before he became the vice president and consequently president. He is not popular and so if we are saying that PDP is not popular in Bayelsa State, his inability to perform maximally when he was the President is likely to contribute to the unpopularity of PDP in Bayelsa now”.

Reacting to the statement attributed to Obasanjo on Jonathan administration, he said: “I have had situations where fellow Senators would say ah, Senator Brambiafa you have had your turn don’t come and ask anything from us. If you didn’t utilize your turn don’t come back and ask us. Those of us from Bayelsa, Niger Delta and entire South South did not benefit from the rule of Jonathan who is from Bayelsa State, Niger Delta and South South. Nobody has benefited anything from him.
“Look at the East-West road and that is the area that links all the Niger Delta States up to Lagos. Sad, that road is still under construction”.
On while the present governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson would not return, he stated that his tenure was given to promise and fail.
He said: “The performance of a government is a function of how many projects he commissioned at a given time, is that not so? You want to go to Bayelsa for the three and half years that this man has been the governor? There is no one project, not one that has been commissioned, not one. I am not saying that he didn’t put his hands in doing one or two projects but it is a functions of how many project you commission that will determine you as a performing governor.”
Speaking on why the PDP collapsed generally, he said: “I think that there is a wind of change in the country and the wind of change has caught up with the PDP as a result of poor performance of PDP government. You know the mass can take it but they can not take it forever, when they take it to certain point they will revolts. The abysmal failure of the PDP is a typical example that if you are in government and you don’t perform well irrespective of the fact that Nigerians mostly can see a lot of rot and react less you will be voted out”
Also the Senator explained that the Bayelsa APC was planning a rally to receive over 15, 000 decampees into the party. According to him, this would include Commisioners, lawmakers and government functionaries.
