APC govs oppose Fayose’s nomination as Deputy Chair of NGF

APC govs oppose Fayose’s nomination as Deputy Chair of NGF
Indications emerged Monday that the governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will oppose the nomination of the governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose as the Deputy Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).
But in a swift reaction Monday, the Ekiti State governor said that he was not interested in being the Deputy Chairman of NGF but the Chairman.
Fayose, who responded to the allegation of APC governors opposing his choice as Deputy Chairman of NGF by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors in a telephone interview, stated that the APC governors don’t have any choice over that.
According to him: “I am not interested for the position because it comes with responsibilities but my colleagues are insisting that l must be the Deputy Chairman of NGF.
“I am the longest serving governor today, having served in the days of President Olusegun Obasanjo and also serving today.
“The APC governors are intruding as the PDP governors did not make any contribution when they chose the governor of Zamfara as the Chairman of NGF”.
A reliable source close to one of the APC governors in one of the North-central states revealed that the choice of Fayose by the PDP was ill considered and unacceptable by the party.
The source said the APC was wary of the controversial governor and would not accept Fayose to such a sensitive position, asking the PDP to find a suitable replacement.
“I wonder why the PDP thinks the Ekiti governor should be the choice for the Deputy Chairman of the Forum when they could not accept him as the chairman of their PDP Governors’ Forum. The choice is unacceptable to us and we would oppose it when we meet on Wednesday,” the source confided.
He also pointed out that Fayose has remained a divisive factor during the electioneering campaigns and has remained so after the polls and it would be an ill-informed decision to have him occupy such a position.
According to him: “The APC was not averse to the PDP fielding a level headed governor to deputise for the chairman of the forum, but certainly not Governor Fayose that is giving to reckless and inciting statements and actions.”
The Forum will meet on Wednesday where the deputy chairman would be adopted.
