Anambra lawmakers applaud conduct of party congresses
Federal legislators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Anambra State‎ have lent support to the planned conduct of the party congresses in the state next Tuesday.
The PDP had fixed July 21 for the election of substantive party executives for the various levels of leadership in the state.
Leader of the Anambra State caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chukwuka Onyema told journalists in Abuja Saturday that federal lawmakers in both chambers of the National Assembly from the state were satisfied with the preparations made for the conduct of the exercise
“After a thorough appraisal of the preparations, timelines and other processes outlined, we wish to register our appreciation to the National Working Committee for its efforts to ensure that the nomination and election processes are hitch-free, transparent, free and fair in line with its pledge to restore internal democracy at all levels of leadership in our great party,” Onyema stated.
He expressed delight that the exercise which would usher in substantive and well structured party administration at all levels in the state after a long time will not only strengthen the party in the state but put it in a good stead to retake the government of the state in the next governorship election.
“We therefore, urge all our members to work with our national leadership to ensure a smooth exercise and shame all enemies of our party, especially agents of other political parties, who may who may be out to derail the process for their selfish reasons,” he noted.
The lawmakers also commended, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, who hails from the state, for his performance so far in projecting the interest and image of the party and for his efforts to ensure that the congresses are peaceful, credible, free and fair.
Anambra State has been without elected party executives at all levels for over five years.
