Former Green Eagles star, Adokiye Amiesimaka, has tipped the U-23 Eagles to survive the onslaught of the Congolese when they host Nigeria in the second leg of the 2016 Olympics qualifier in Pointe Noire in a fortnight. The Coach Samson Siasia-led team managed a 2-1 win over the Congolese on Sunday at the Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, but the ace winger praised the team’s resilience and tactical play.
“This team can get a good result in Congo if they play and improve on taking their chances. Although the score line was in favour of Nigeria, it did not reflect the dominance of the team. But it was win, a deserved win,” he said. “I saw in the players a sense of professionalism that is rare to find in our teams, at least in recent times.
“Commitment to a cause, one could see from the beginning of the game till the end that they played with a sense of purpose. I am making this point to encourage them to continue in that spirit,” Amiesimaka said. He also expressed delight with the large turnout of fans while cherishing the state government for naming the stadium after him. “I am on top of the world that the international match was played in a stadium named after me and that Nigeria won,’’ he said.
