Chad match to gulp N120m – Pinnick

The Nigeria/Chad 2017 Nations Cup qualifier scheduled to take place in Kaduna next week will cost the Nigeria Football Federation about N120m. NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, who stated this in Lagos on Wednesday stressed that ticket refund and bonuses of the 15 professional players was a huge burden on the football body.

He stressed that about $8,000 will be spent on each of the invited professionals coming for the encounter billed for June 13.

The list of 15 players to join the remaining eight home-based players was released on May 29. “The NFF is doing a whole lot and every match is a big project in all areas. We want results and we also spend heavily,” he said.

Pinnick also gave reasons why former assistant coach of the team, Sylvanus Okpala, would not be re-engaged by the federation. “It was an inherited problem. Okpala dragged the NFF to the Court Arbitration and he won the case.

The NFF is to pay him about N50m which we have started paying monthly.

We cannot in anyway employ such a person again. “There are many other former internationals that can do the job. That is why we have Salisu Yusuf there now. He has a good knowledge of the domestic league and that is a plus for the national team.”
