A young girl who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather, is being forced to carry on with the pregnancy.
The government of Paraguay, has refused to grant permission for the young girl to have an abortion, claiming that her life is not in danger.
Activists are now demanding that the government grant her permission to abort the baby as it will leave the young girl emotionally traumatized.
The mother of the unidentified girl checked into the hospital after she complained of stomach pains.
Tests revealed that the 10-year-old girl was already 21 weeks pregnant.
Earlier this week, the child’s mother asked for permission to abort the baby, and it was revealed that her stepfather had sex with her.
Her request was denied and the mother has been arrested by police. She is currently in custody, facing charges of breaching duty of care for her daughter and for being an accomplice of sexual abuse.
Police alleged that the mother knew of the sexual assaults and she continued to live with her husband.
Police are looking for the 45-year-old stepfather, who fled after the rape was discovered.
