Police arrest 74 robbers in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 74 armed robbery suspects who have been terrorising Lafia, Maraba-Akuza, Nasarawa Toto, Mararaba, Masaka and Karua areas of the state.

Parading the suspects on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Sani Usman, at the Criminal Investigative Department in Lafia on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Umaru Ismaila Numan, said the command also foiled 39 armed robbery cases during raids carried out on hideouts in the state.

He said the armed robbery suspects were arrested at different locations in the state.

The police image maker also stated that the command arrested a man who allegedly bought a car from a car dealer in Adamawa State and refused to pay.

“This person was initially reported as buying a vehicle from a person in Adamawa State and refusing to offset the balance. But during interrogation, we began to suspect him and then carried out a search on his house. During the process of search, we discovered police uniform and two different police ID cards,” he stated.

He continued, “From there, investigations led us to Adamawa State and that was when we discovered that he killed the driver of the vehicle and stole it. When he killed the person, he put his corpse in a ‘Ghana-must-go bag’ and dumped the dead body in River Benue in Yola.”

Items recovered from the suspects included 15 firearms, six AK 47 riffles and 35 locally made pistols.

Others items recovered from other suspects according to Numan were 64 live ammunition, 21 cartridges, 26 cutlasses, five motorcycles, four generators and eight vehicles.

Also apprehended from February to May were rapists.

He added that the command had since commenced full investigation into the cases and those that were found culpable would be charged to court.
