Nigerian actress gets suspended for turning down Producer Sexual advances

Rahma Sadau, an actress in Kannywood, the Northern movie-
producing part of Nigeria, has been suspended for saying no to sexual advances from a producer.

The producer Adam A Zango declared publicly that the actress, Rahma Sadau, was dropped from his movie ‘Duniya Makaranta’ for rejecting his romantic advances.

She was then suspended by the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN).

Some directors are ignoring MOPPAN’s suspension of Rahma, featuring her in their movies. Directors such as her godfather, Kannywood cum Nollywood’s Ali Nuhu, continue to feature her in their upcoming movies in defiance of the suspension.

It is understood that Nuhu wrote to the association requesting that Rahma be allowed to complete the movie production she had started with him prior to her suspension and did not wait for a response before going on to complete the production.

The national chairman of Arewa Film Association Of Nigeria (AFMAN), Abdullahi Sani Abdullahi, popularly known as Baba Karami, said the association to which the actress is affiliated was not formally notified of her suspension, and in this case, would continue to cast her in its movies.

This is not the first case of a suspension of a female actress in the movie industry. Nafisa Abdullahi, Maryam Malika and Fati Ladan, among others, have suffered similar treatment.

Nafisa Abdullahi was suspended for organizing a party with her colleagues contrary to AFMAN’s directive.

Many have wondered why the rod is not spared when it comes to the female actors, while their male counterparts have never been similarly punished.
