Burundi Presidency denys losing power, says coup d’etat has failed

Burundi’s presidency has denied reports of the military taken over power through coup d’etat.

The official twitter account of the president tweeted (in French) that the “situation is under control”and there is “no coup”.

Earlier, army general Godefroid Niyombareh said President Pierre Nkurunziza has been overthrown.

Mr Nkurunziza is in Tanzania for talks with regional leaders.
