Buhari’s covenant

I read the letter by the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, entitled, My Covenant. It was a thought-provoking one. I wish the Nigerian factors do not hinder him from respecting the covenant he made. The aspect I want to talk on is his last sentence on education, wherein he said he would pursue a policy of non-discrimination between the universities and polytechnics. Presently, the discrimination is too much, many polytechnic graduates who found themselves in the federal civil service are regretting it.

In the federal civil service, we write the same promotion exams with our university counterparts up to level 14, where we are not allowed to progress further because of the obnoxious policy that a polytechnic graduate cannot go beyond level 14. In the late 70s and early 80s, the Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo regime encouraged polytechnic education, sent some students abroad and gave incentives to those at home. If Buhari can correct this abnomally, his name will be written in gold.
