Agbara area will get fire station soon ─ OPIC

The Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation says residents of the Agbara area in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state will soon have a fire service station.

The Director, Public Relations, Mr. Dehinde Boye, said this on Monday during a telephone interview with our correspondent.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Wednesday, April 29, that residents of the area said their plea to the state government to provide the area with a fire service station had been ignored for years.

It was also reported that the absence of the facility had slowed down responses to some fire disasters which happened recently in the area, thereby causing loss of valuables.

Boye, who clarified that the OPIC Managing Director, Babajide Odusolu, did not visit the Agbara Industrial Estate, as claimed by the residents, said the government was working to provide a fire service station and other necessary infrastructure.

He said, “Presently, we are providing infrastructure in the area. The area is both industrial and residential.

“For example, some of the roads that need rehabilitation have been done.

“But the fire outbreak reported was not in the OPIC estate, but in a private estate managed by a family.

“However, we are also improving on water, security and a part of what the government is looking at is the provision of a fire service station.

“In the whole of Agbara, there is no fire station, and that has been brought to our notice. So, we are hoping to provide it soon. The provision of infrastructure has always been ongoing. It was not as if we stopped at any time.

“Also, there was no time that the OPIC MD visited the Agbara estate. I have spoken with the victim over the incident.

“He has a house in the OPIC estate as well. They are going to get the fire station very soon.”
