AIG Mbu’s threat

I write to correct a statement credited to the Assistant Inspector-General of Zone 2, Mr. Joseph Mbu, while monitoring the governorship election in Lagos on Saturday, where he claimed that his threat that 10 people should be killed for every policeman lost during the elections.AIG Mbu was quoted to have said that his threat worked because he had instilled fear in the people. This statement credited to a high ranking officer as Mbu is not only demeaning but ridiculous. Did it not occur to Mbu that his threat was capable of inciting the public? Did it also never occurred to him that it was better to instill discipline than fear in the people? Mbu’s conduct has again brought to the fore the general mindset of an average Nigerian policeman who sees himself as being above the law.
