Suspected arsonists on Monday set ablaze the Isiokolo office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC damaging files and other sensitive items within the building.
According to witnesses, the building sited opposite the Agbon Secondary School, was newly constructed for the operations of the electoral umpire and was set ablaze between the hours of 6 and 7pm on Monday.
The witness who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that the suspects stormed the premises through the back fence and broke into the office after chasing out the security guards and immediately set the building ablaze.
Though details of the damages could not be ascertained, when Vanguard visit the premises yesterday morning, it was gathered that an unspecified number of Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs were burnt while part of the roof was also affected.
Contacted, the state Police PRO, DSP Celestina Kalu denied the incident saying: “It is false, and I wonder who is carrying such rumours.”
Ethiope East is one of the areas in Delta Central Senatorial district whose results is being questioned for alleged irregularities by the Labour Party, LP.
