Orji’s commissioner denies diversion of N1bn agric loan
The immediate past Finance Commissioner in Abia State, Dr. Philip Nto, has denied the allegation of diverting part of the N1billion Federal Government/Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) agricultural loan to the state, saying that the process of disbursement was transparently verifiable.
Registered farmers in Abia State, had alleged that the former Commissioner diverted part of the loan for personal enrichment They had raised the alarm over what they described as the shoddy disbursement of the loan under the supervision of the former Commissioner, calling on the Federal and State Governments to probe the disbursement of the loan.
Some of the farmers who spoke to newsmen in Umuahia, on condition of anonymity alleged that they were convinced that the ex-Commissioner pocketed large chunk of the loan and shared out the balance even as they said that the amount they were given were far less than what they signed on paper. Though some among the farmers said they were paid the amount they signed for yet others insisted that they were paid N50,000, as against the N200,000, on paper which they signed.
