Jonathan’s Loss Causes Anambra Voter Apathy – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State has attributed the general apathy and low turnout of voters for the State Assembly election in the state to the loss of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election.

Saturday election was virtually marred by general apathy and pockets of violence across the state.
In most places visited, though accreditation started as early as 8am, voter turnout was generally low.
The Coordinator of President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in Anambra State, Mr. Okey Ezenwa, said the failure of the President to emerge as winner of the country’s presidential poll, resulted in the poor participation of voters in the State Assembly election.
He also confirmed cases of violence and snatching of ballot boxes in Agulu and Ogbunike areas of the state, saying “the current government cannot exonerate itself from this.”
Ezenwa added, “The loss of Jonathan in the last election had contributed to the apathy of voters seen in the state, and these pockets of violence are not helping maters either.”
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, while addressing newsmen at his ward, located at Eri in Aguleri, said the report of violence in some parts of the state had  informed his going out to monitor happenings in the state.
The governor had expressed sadness over the reports reaching him that indicated that thugs, suspected to be loyal to the PDP, were said to have carted away sensitive electoral materials in some areas across the three senatorial districts in the state.
